Slowly, slowly the bird builds its nest....

You cannot learn the djembe overnight. This is impossible. Djembe is a lifetime learning experience. You can never stop learning with this drum.

Hi Jeremy,

I'm so glad I found your blog , it has inspired me since day one I read it. I work in Mexico City, I'm Haitian-Mexican, my 2 passions are basketball and djembe music. I just bought a djembe 3 months ago, and I play it every weekend for 4 hours or more. At the very beginning it was hard, I couldnt play any rhytm; but this last month I got better and I love it. It sets me free when I play it. But I would like to learn more and more, would you recommend a book or video I could get . Thanks for your advice. SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO AMIGO¡¡

Thats so true and not many people appreciate that as alot of the traditions have become diluted in Europe. I am 16 and live in Britain and my teacher is from Senegal, I have been playing for about 2 years and perform every now and then. I love the djembe and it has given me a new awarness in life.

Like any field of education or just purely learning for fun or as a hobby even life itself is a never ending process to get by as days pass by.
